If there were more sophisticated animation shows and movies produced for adults that were like Monster, Haibane Renmei, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Ghost in the Shell: SAC, or Black Lagoon than maybe people might think it's more respectable. We have Hollywood and television studios instead for people to pitch ideas to, which gets made into live action. In short it is the utter lack of variety. The main cause is that animation is not a popular enough medium here for people to use it to tell very many serious stories and stop it from being stereotyped. These are just maybe some reasons that I thought could be why. Some anime watchers go too overboard and give other watchers a bad name. People see the messed up anime (hentai, incest, etc.) and generalize all anime to be that way. People think that anime is only for children and shouldn't be watched by adults.

What's different to those shows then other ones? Why do people find those that watch anime disdainful or weird? Where did this negative connotation start? I mean, Dragon Ball Z and ESPECIALLY Pokemon were HUGE successes in America back in the day, and they are anime. Extremely obsessing over certain things while also being socially awkward is what makes you a nerd. Liking video games, being into computers or technology in general doesn't make you a nerd. Those guys you mentioned are basically celebrities and wealthy not some average nerd. That's just ridiculously absurd and opposite of any person who actually knows what they're talking about.Īgain, nerds are only looked down upon if they waste their lives and don't do shit, but that applies to any person.

You also seem to be saying that video games is becoming more legitimate but the nerds who play those video games are still looked down upon. Zuckerberg is a nerd, along with Steve Jobs, and those two are some of the most revered people in the world (not just industry). As I said before certain things associated with being a nerd are changing but nerds are still looked down upon.wtf? You do know my entire post was basically that all the nerds in those fields are respected and sought after right? I'm not talking about "things associated with being a nerd." I'm talking specifically about people in those fields.
